1.The current trend in engineering to not start from the beginning if there is a problem but to fix the problem by adding more to the system to directly deal with the problem resulting in an overly complicated and inefficient product.

Example: Modern Refrigerator
Not enough insulation
- add more tubes and motors for coolant
- add fans to cool additional motors
- rewire for additional power or just add more insulation
